I receive a lot of questions from people about Norwex and what being an Independent Norwex Consultant actually means. Here are some answers.

What is Norwex?

Norwex is a global cleaning-products company with a mission to radically reduce chemicals in our homes and on our planet through simple, cost-effective solutions that really work. It all started in Norway in 1994. In the years since, with the help of a dedicated team of consultants, Norwex has grown into one of the most respected cleaning and personal-care product companies in the world — all while staying true to its mission. Why become a consultant?

When you become a Norwex consultant, you will have the opportunity to start and build your own profitable business by promoting and selling the company’s chemical-free and eco-friendly products.

As a consultant, you have a lot of flexibility. When I started my business in 2008, my goals were only to work part-time and make some extra money. After my husband was laid off and we really needed the extra income, I was very motivated and quickly grew my business into a full-time career. Today, I lead a team of more than 10,000 Norwex consultants from all over the United States.

They range from lovers of the products who simply want to be wholesale customers, to part-time consultants, to full-time consultants who, like me, focus on growing very successful businesses.

No matter how big or small you want your venture to be, you can count on Norwex’s support. I appreciate how the company shines among direct-home-sales companies for its generous compensation and incentive packages. Norwex offers consultants a 35 percent commission and has great sales incentive programs through which consultants can earn gifts and awards.

How do I get started?

It’s easy to sign up to be a Norwex Consultant. Just visit my Norwex site — or contact page to send me a message if you have more questions. We’ll have you up and running in no time. Anyone in the United States or Canada can sign up with a North American representative. All you need to do is provide your Social Security Number (or SIN in Canada), a credit card number and basic information about yourself on a secure Norwex website.

How much does it cost?

The Norwex Starter Kit costs $200 plus shipping. However, you have the option to earn this kit — which is stocked with products valued at a total of $280 — for FREE. Hundreds of Norwex consultants who have served other direct-sales companies tell me this is one of the best deals you will find with any direct-sales company.

The Norwex Starter Kit includes absolutely everything you need to conduct product demonstrations. It contains all of Norwex’s most popular products and enough business supplies to get you started: the Superior Mop Collection, Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent, Enviro and Window Cloths, the Dusting Mitt, a training guide, information about Norwex and marketing materials.

All of these wonderful things could be yours for FREE. You will have 90 days to sell $2,000 worth of Norwex products. If you do not make your goal, you will be billed $200 for the Norwex Starter Kit. If you live in Canada, you also have the option to purchase a $59.95 (plus shipping and handling) starter kit, and then earn a $200 shopping spree if you reach $2,500 in retail sales within 90 days.

It typically takes three or four parties to sell $2,000 worth of Norwex products. I recommend that consultants set aside earnings from their first party to pay for the Norwex Starter Kit in case they do not reach their $2,000 goal.

Scheduling your own launch party (I recommend having two parties) and asking a few people you know if they will help you get started by hosting a Norwex party with you is all it takes to get your Norwex business off to a good start.

What about ongoing expenses?

After earning the Starter Kit, you must sustain a minimum of $250 in retail sales every six months to remain a current consultant. Remember: as a consultant, you get a 35 percent discount on Norwex products. So whether you are selling the products or keeping them for personal use, you are getting a great deal! Your out-of-pocket costs will only be $162.50 every six months, or $27 a month. As you grow your business and sell more, you will be eligible for sales incentives and rewards that would require higher sales minimums if you choose to reach for them. You can stop any time without any additional costs.

How much can I make?

That really depends on you. How much time do you want to invest? How proactive do you want to be about growing your business? All consultants make 35 percent commission. You are in complete control of how much money you make. It really all depends on how many Norwex parties and events you lead in a month.

A simple way for you to estimate your monthly earnings is to know an average Norwex party generates about $580 sales — which means you, the consultant, will earn about $200 in commissions from that event. If you would like to make an extra $400 each month – perhaps for a car payment — then plan to lead at least two Norwex parties each month. If you would like to make an extra $1,000 each month – which would cover many people’s rent or mortgage payments — then set a goal to lead at least five Norwex parties each month.

You can make even more extra income by sharing the business opportunity with others and growing a Norwex team of your own. You could earn management pay by leading a team. Consultants who choose to lead teams typically start out making an extra $100 per month — but as they add new team members, they quickly earn an extra $1,000 per month. Leadership commissions easily can reach a six-figure income.

Remember: the more you sell, the more you earn, and the more perks will be rewarded to you just for doing a job you love!

What if I am not cut out for sales or don’t like throwing parties?

I just want to reassure you that I was the unlikeliest salesperson ever. I. Am. Not. Kidding. So, how did I grow my business when I was afraid to speak in front of people? And how did I manage all of this when I was a stay-at-home mom of five kids with an insanely busy schedule? The answer: I absolutely love Norwex cleaning products and truly believe they should be in everyone’s homes.

I also look at myself as an educator and never a salesperson. I’m just sharing what I love and educating others about how these green-cleaning products are healthier options that also will save them time and money to use. After all, those great Norwex discounts allow consultants to purchase high-quality, chemical-free cleaning and personal-care products at extremely affordable prices. So whether consultants sell the products or keep them for personal use, they’re coming out ahead.

Given my own success with Norwex, I also encourage everyone just to “give it a try.” If I hadn’t tried, I would never have known the joys of running my own home-based business.

While hosting and leading parties will help you sell the most products the fastest, this really isn’t the only way to build a successful Norwex business. Many consultants use social media (with guidelines) to share Norwex products. You also can build a successful business by managing relatively small circles of clients well. You could take orders only from family members and friends and give the Norwex catalog to your neighbors.

Will I need to keep inventory of Norwex products in my home?

I love that there’s no need to stockpile Norwex. You can order online for your customers, and Norwex will deliver directly to their homes in a few days. Just remember to keep enough key products on hand to show off at parties or to your family and friends!

How can I take my business to the next level?

As you increase sales, you will be eligible for different consultant levels:

  • Current: $250 in sales every six months.
  • Active: $250 in sales every three months.
  • Engaged: $250 in sales per month. Once you reach the engaged level, you are eligible for promotion to leadership roles in the company.

We have tons of advertising materials that have been pre-approved by Norwex. Also, use the tools that Norwex provides, including a personalized website, to help your business grow.
Be creative.

There are many ways to promote Norwex products. You could make the most of social media, head directly to business owners, lead one-on-one in home presentations and exhibit at flea markets or trade shows. Just make sure you review Norwex guidelines about where and how you can work. Many consultants also write blogs about the benefits of green cleaning and Norwex, or they make media appearances. Again, make sure you check Norwex guidelines about how to do this. With time, creativity, commitment — and the help and support of my Go Green Team — you can build a flourishing business!
