Pam AltendortWorking with Norwex has been a life-changing experience for me. Not only have I been able to build a successful business, but I have been able to devote my career to something I really care about: reducing toxic chemicals in our homes and in the environment. It’s work I can feel good about as both a parent and a cancer survivor.

I receive a lot of questions from people about Norwex and what being an Independent Norwex Consultant actually means. Here are some answers.

What is Norwex?

My passion for Norwex is centered around helping others embrace a healthier lifestyle through healthier cleaning. As a cancer survivor, I especially understand the importance of ridding my household of toxic — and potentially toxic — chemicals. So when I was introduced to Norwex products in 2008, I was immediately won over by the company’s mission to radically reduce the chemicals in our homes through simple, cost-effctive solutions that really work.

And, they do really work! I first tried the Norwex microfibers and I was immediately amazed by the quality and power of these cloths.  Using only the Norwex cloths and water — no chemicals — I was able to clean my entire house in record time.  I remember saying to my husband, “These products save you time, save you money and remove harmful chemicals from your home. Who wouldn’t want to buy them!”

My experience with the microfibers convinced me to test out other Norwex products and each time I came to same conclusion:quality, time-savings, cost savings — all while reducing the chemicals in my home.

When I eventually signed on as an independent consultant with Norwex, I felt confident that I would be able to build a successful business because I LOVE the products and I BELIEVE in the mission. That is something, I think I have in common with the thousands of consultants around the world who have built thriving businesses, helping Norwex to become one of the most respected cleaning and personal-care product companies out there.

Why become a consultant?

When I started my business in 2008, my goals were only to work part-time and make some extra money. I was looking for a career that allowed the flexibility of being there when my kids got home from school. After my husband was laid off and we really needed the extra income, I was very motivated and quickly grew my business —but I was still able to schedule it around what my family needed. It is this flexibility that made Norwex such a great choice for me.

Today, I lead a team of more than 10,000 Norwex consultants from all over the United States. They range from lovers of the products who simply want to be wholesale customers, to part-time consultants, to full-time consultants who, like me, focus on growing very successful businesses. (You can read my recent blog post about the reasons independent Norwex consultants on my Go Green Team give for loving their work with Norwex.)

My experience has been that no matter how big or small my team members want to make their venture, they can count on Norwex’s support. I appreciate how the company stands out among direct-home-sales companies for its generous compensation and incentive packages

Become a consultant

How much does it cost?

Like a lot of my fellow consultants, when I started with Norwex I didn’t have much money to spare. So I understand why people always have questions about the cost of becoming a Norwex consult. Well, here’s another reason I love Norwex: You pay very little upfront.

Yup, as soon as you sign on, Norwex sends you the amazing Party Starter Kit — for FREE (Pay only for shipping and handling). It includes many of Norwex’s most popular products like the Superior Mop Collection, Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent, the EnviroCloth and Window Cloth as well as the Dusting Mitt. Plus you get a step-by-step guide to starting your business, and all the Norwex print materials you could ever need.

Hundreds of Norwex consultants who have served other direct-sales companies tell me this is one of the best deals you will find with any direct-sales company.

What about ongoing expenses?

After earning the Starter Kit, it’s really up to you! If you want to remain current as a consultant, you have to make a minimum of $250 in retail sales every six months — which, with your 35 percent consultant discount, really amounts to about $162.50 every six months, or $27 a month. If you grow your business and sell more, Norwex is one of the most generous companies in direct sales, rewarding your hard work with incredible sales insentives and discounts. You may become eligible for promotion, which means more perks but also higher sales minimums. So how much you choose to invest in the business really depends on what you want from your business. You can stop any time without any additional costs.

How much can I make?

That really depends on you. How much time do you want to put into the business? You are in complete control of how much money you make. It really all comes down to how many Norwex parties and events you lead in a month, how actively you recruit others, and how creative you can be in marketing the products.

A simple way for you to estimate your monthly earnings is to know an average Norwex party generates about $580 sales — which means you, the consultant, will earn about $200 in commissions from that event. If you would like to make an extra $400 each month – perhaps for a car payment — then plan to lead at least two Norwex parties each month. If you would like to make an extra $1,000 each month – which would cover many people’s rent or mortgage payments — then set a goal to lead at least five Norwex parties each month.

You can make even more extra income by sharing the business opportunity with others and growing a Norwex team of your own. You could earn management pay by leading a team. Consultants who choose to lead teams typically start out making an extra $100 per month — but as they add new team members, they quickly earn an extra $1,000 per month. Leadership commissions easily can reach a six-figure income.

Remember: the more you sell, the more you earn, and the more perks will be rewarded to you just for doing a job you love!

What if I am not cut out for sales or don’t like throwing parties?

I just want to reassure you that I was the unlikeliest salesperson ever. I. Am. Not. Kidding. So, how did I grow my business when I was afraid to speak in front of people? And how did I manage all of this when I was a stay-at-home mom of five kids with an insanely busy schedule? The answer: I absolutely love Norwex cleaning products and truly believe they should be in everyone’s homes.

I also look at myself as an educator and never a salesperson. I’m just sharing what I love and educating others about how these green-cleaning products are healthier options that also will save them time and money to use. After all, those great Norwex discounts allow consultants to purchase high-quality, chemical-free cleaning and personal-care products at extremely affordable prices. So whether consultants sell the products or keep them for personal use, they’re coming out ahead.

Given my own success with Norwex, I also encourage everyone just to “give it a try.” If I hadn’t tried, I would never have known the joys of running my own home-based business.

While hosting and leading parties will help you sell the most products the fastest, this really isn’t the only way to build a successful Norwex business. Many consultants use social media (with guidelines) to share Norwex products. You also can build a successful business by managing relatively small circles of clients well. You could take orders only from family members and friends and give the Norwex catalog to your neighbors.

I try to provide consultants who join my Go Green Team an array of helpful resources designed to help them increase their sales and run their businesses more smoothly. Through our exclusive Green Team website, I share tons of tips about throwing hassle-free and successful events.

Will I need to keep inventory of Norwex products in my home?

I love that there’s no need to stockpile Norwex. You can order online for your customers, and Norwex will deliver directly to their homes in a few days. Just remember to keep enough key products on hand to show off at parties or to your family and friends!

What is  the Go Green Team?

I am so proud of my team of independent Norwex consultants. We are like family, supporting each other every step of the way. I love to help Go Green Team members become successful business owners. Our team is comprised of more than 10,000 Norwex consultants from all over the United States, and I have helped more than 400 other consultants be promoted to leadership roles in the company. I am happy to say that in just a few years, our team has become one of the company’s most successful and collaborative sales teams.

My mission is to use my experience and share what I have learned along the way to support the consultants with whom I work. Through a secure website that only Go Green Team members can access, you will be able to take advantage of numerous resources — including online discussion forums, webinars, event calendars and a work-at-your-own-pace learning platform. The Green Team website is full of deals and information about green cleaning and living — something about which I am particularly passionate. So even if you don’t end up building a business, you will have access to a lot of great information simply by signing up.

How can I take my business to the next level?

As you increase sales, you will be eligible for different consultant levels.

To help you get there, take advantage of information you find on the Go Green Team website I make exclusively available to members of my sales team. We have tons of advertising materials that have been pre-approved by Norwex. Also, use the tools that Norwex provides, including a personalized website, to help your business grow.
Be creative.

There are many ways to promote Norwex products. You could make the most of social media, head directly to business owners, lead one-on-one in home presentations and exhibit at flea markets or trade shows. Just make sure you review Norwex guidelines about where and how you can work. Many consultants also write blogs about the benefits of green cleaning and Norwex, or they make media appearances. Again, make sure you check Norwex guidelines about how to do this. With time, creativity, commitment — and the help and support of my Go Green Team — you can build a flourishing business!

There is so much I can say about Norwex, our great products and the benefits of working for a company where collaboration and mutual respect are valued. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me any time. I look forward to hearing from you!
