Austin Green Cleaning specialistI actually do a great deal of harvesting every spring. That’s right! Each year, people share a wonderful bounty of spring-cleaning tips, and I always glean from them great ideas to add to a list I have assembled to remind me about some of the great ways I can freshen my home.

Among my favorite tips from others — combined with a few of my own based on my experiences with Norwex products:

Ditch the sponges They’re trapping bacteria and grime — and they’re smelly in no time flat. Use Norwex’s antibacterial microfiber cloths instead. The EnviroCloth removes dust, dirt and grease from all washable surfaces using only water. Then BacLock™* in the cloth goes to work to self-purify and inhibit odors from bacteria, mold and mildew growth within the cloth.

Ditch harsh chemicals When you use Norwex products, you can rid your home of harsh chemicals. The only cleaning agent you really need is water! But even our formulated cleansers will give you great peace of mind as you take on the toughest jobs. Take, for example, the Blue Diamond All-in-One Bathroom Cleaner. IT is a thick, ultra-concentrated gel that is phosphate-free and has no APEs (alkyl phenol ethoxylates). It is readily biodegradable and contains organic salts and citric acid to replace strong, corrosive acids found commonly found in other bathroom cleansers.

Cut through oven grime in no time I’m always amazed by how quickly and thoroughly organic ingredients cut through the food splatter and buildup in my microwave and kitchen oven. There are many natural ways to clean these appliances. Check out this video about the use of lemon and bicarbonate soda:

For tough jobs requiring a little more scrubbing, I also use Norwex’s Cleaning Paste — also known as “elbow grease in a jar.” Its active ingredients are Contains marble flour, natural soap and traces of coconut oil. This paste is also great for cleaning smelly plastic food containers because it neutralizes odors.

Don’t forget the refrigerator coils Sure, these are out of sight and also hard to reach, but manufacturers typically recommend that you clean these coils at least once a year to keep your appliance running well. To reach into those tough spots quickly and thoroughly, I use my EnviroWand from Norwex. I just slip on the microfiber sleeve, bend the wand to reach into those tough spots, and get to work. Bonus: The EnviroWand also fits onto the end of my Telescopic Mop Handle, so I can clean high window ledges, light fixtures and ceiling moulding.

Go for a streak-free shine Stainless steel appliances and glass tile backsplashes are wonderful — and also prone to show smears and streaks even when clean. With Norwex’s Window Cloth, you can ditch chemical cleaners and have a streak-free shine. Use this cloth on windows, mirrors, shower doors, glass tables, crystal, granite countertops, jewelry, brushed and stainless steel, chrome, knickknacks, patio tables and other shiny surfaces.

Pet hair removal made easy Love my pets, but cleaning up after them is a chore. I try to stay ahead of shedding by using the Pet Mitt to remove the excess dirt and hair before they cover my carpets and furniture.

Refreshing a mattress Yes, you wash the linens and mattress pad, but don’t forget the mattress itself. Mattresses, upholstery and other non-washable soft surfaces can harbor organic waste, such as dead skin cells, body oils and pet dander. This is especially problematic for allergy sufferers. Norwex’s Mattress Cleaner contains enzymes that clean surfaces of contaminants and soil while also reducing odor. It is nontoxic, biodegradable, free of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and paraben-free.
